This variant group, a spinoff of JN.1.11.1, has been identified as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) FLiRT variation KP.2. It was first detected in the United States. According to reports, it's spreading quickly in the United States. For the two weeks ending April 27, 2024, this FLiRT variant was responsible for almost 25% of newly sequenced cases, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
